A Moose Update

I was in Portsmouth, New Hampshire over this past weekend visiting my dad. He lives in a quaint, nestled neighborhood on the south side bordered by the Piscataqua River. We arrived late Friday, and on Saturday evening, Moose was gone.
Gone. Like walked away nowhere to be seen gone. Gone. The dog that lays in front of the store off leash when you go in. The dog that won’t go for a walk with my boyfriend without me. My shadow. My fluffy love. Gone.
For three and a half agonizing days, we put up fliers. We called the police, animal control, neighbors, the newspaper. An animal communicator. I had to laugh a little, but desperate times call for desperate measures. How does a hundred pound root beer barrel with legs just vanish? (Oh, yes. There was that one time he chased after a ‘cat,’ and as I ripped it from his jaws, I quickly learned it was of the black and white variety we affectionately call a skunk….)
A call to the Rye, NH animal control and support from a fantastic woman named Cathy encouraged me to expand my perimeters. We found Moose in Maine.
As he ran into my arms, I was overcome with shear joy. And for me, the lessons to be learned are all over the board. Don’t give up. Have faith. Don’t put off telling someone you love them. And most importantly, help might just lie a little beyond your comfortable perimeter. The answers are out there.
As this tale comes full circle in a corny little anecdote, Tracy and I are here to lend a helping hand. To alleviate you of that undetermined weight on your shoulders. To get you back to that place where you felt unrestrained by muscular limitations. To help you holistically combat stress. Sometimes a phone call can have extraordinary results.
If you feel like your flexible, relaxed, pain free self is that missing dog across state line, try getting a massage. Relief could be right under your nose.

You almost has me in tears.
